I've been into serious coin collecting all this century. I started getting into silver and gold when I was a teenager since the prices made things so affordable back then.

One key person that got me involved in such things was my step-grandfather who was of Dutch descent and served in WW2. He was into USA coins much like most collectors here.

In 2008 or 2009 a British man sent me some predecimel coins and as soon as budget permitted a few years later I got into buying silver and gold coins.

Prices were at all-time highs so I had to be a bit more selective in what i purchased. Foreign coins were also a bit scarce so I bought some gold from the Netherlands, a restrike Ducat and some Euro commemorative. These sold no questions asked when I needed money later.

Now I'm back into coin collecting as of 2022. I buy pretty much any world silver coin so long as it is of high grade. At some point I got some Dutch coins from the 60s and put them away in tubes. They weren't really so interesting. I even bought an uncirculated Ducat and as the value went up I traded towards a half Sovereign at a local coin show. I even seen the new ounce coins that didn't quite seem as a real dutch coin with it's replica markings so I passed especially when it was like double or triple spot price.

Then one day it hit me, Dutch coins don't really have a premium on them compared to USA, UK, FR, CH and CA coins. maybe this would be great to specialise in.

As I studied these coins I learn of the colonies, WW2 silver coins made here whilst occupation money was just trash metals. I found that year for year NL beats UK and USA coins on price per gramme of 'zilver' even at key-date coins.

I search Ebay, hit up my online and local dealers, and go top the coin show and amass coins and now I have the makings of a collection.

I figured I would join here and try to learn of production numbers, less common coins, and the history of Dutch coinage.

Oh I kind of forget USA technically was a Dutch colony too. And that is with having two coins with just such a theme.
