I’ve found a leeuwendaalder online which seems weird to me.
As far as I know, silver doesn’t rust, does anyone have any idea what has caused it on this coin? Is a ferrous metal used along with the silver or has it been touching something ferrous?
Many thanks
Jacob

Re: Rust on Silver coin
First, I think it's an original Overijssel Leeuwendaalder 1617. So I don't expect it to be a forgery of other material.
What you sometimes see on lion dollars is that the alloy is slightly different. And if there is a little more iron in it and the alloy is not homogeneous, the iron on the surface can start to rust.
You also see some copper oxidation in this case, which makes the story of a non-homogeneous alloy more plausible.
I don't think this is easy to remove, so it pushes the price down considerably.

Re: Rust on Silver coin
Not so much for me personally. It is not a rare year and this one is quite easy to find in a better quality. I would spend my money on something else.
But if I had to put an amount on it, somewhere around 40-50 euros.

Re: Rust on Silver coin
Honestly I am not going to bid a huge amount, maybe half of that, the uk market for Dutch coins has its pros and cons, there aren’t many coins that come up but also not so many people looking for them
