1919 Netherlands Indies 1 Gulden

Bericht door nanakar »

Hello everyone!
Sorry, It's been a long time since I've posted much of anything.
I have been busy with work that I neglect my collection a bit.

While searching in an online auction recently, I found banknote 1919 Netherlands Indies 1 Gulden (picture of queen Wilhelmina in the middle) but I have no idea what to look for this note.
I tried to find any info in Indonesia but it seems that this note is quite rare.
A collector said that I should collect based on the date.
Are there many date variant for this note and is there a special date that should be collected?
Appreciate any help anyone can offer, thank you.

Hi,

the Note you have is known as the 1919 serie "muntbiljet Wilhelmina" and is cataloged as number H-118 ( kuki 1782-2005 )
printed by the American banknote company

the note is issued in sept 1919 and only exists with that year on it
the note messures 127 x 76 mm

Without a photo its impossible to give it a value since the range is $ 25 for good up to $ 1500+ for UNC

Thank you for the info arjena3.
Yes, you are right. The note in KUKI no H-118.
I have never expected that the difference in price is so wide because of the condition.
The seller said the note is XF with 1 fold in the middle and 2 light folds on the right.
it has a sellotape mark at the top but no tearing. Paper is still hard and no pinhole.

You mentioned that this note was issued in Sept 1919. But the date on the note is 12 AUG 1919.
Is this a different note? Thanks.

Yes, the date of august 1919 is very common, thing is this note was issued in 1919, the printer made bundles every month depending on demands
so the date in inrellevant its only says when the note was printed.

As i said before i can't rate a note without a photo, what you descripe sounds to me the note is VF not XF due to the tape mark which shouldnt been there.

Your input really helps me because I have been wondering if the date on the note is important or not.
I guess the note's condition is the more important factor.
The price for UNC condition is more than my budget so I was thinking of buying the XF condition.
But considering what you said that the note should be VF since it has a tape mark, I am re-thinking whether to spend $900 for this note or not.
Anyway, thank you for all your help arjena3 :thumb up:.

Since you said the asking price is $ 900.00
my advise to you is not to buy it.

Glad i could help you, enjoy collecting

Here a few links to give you an idea about price and how the notes should look:

I found the note you where talking about on Ebay

1 guilder 1919

Now i've seen the photo its not an XF for sure, the note even has some traces of glue or tape on the right top backside and im sure its ironed in the past
the corners of this note are round so its an heavy used note imo this note is VF- and def. not worth $900,---

good luck
