Eesti Pank is announcing a design competition for two collector coins

Eesti Pank is announcing a design competition for a collector coin dedicated to the music of Raimond Valgre and a coin marking the Sochi Winter Olympic Games. Both individuals and groups of authors are invited to participate in the competition.

This year is the centenary of the birth of the composer and musician Raimond Valgre. To mark this occasion, Eesti Pank is issuing a silver collector coin with a nominal value of 7 euros dedicated to Valgre’s music. The mandatory design elements include the grand national coat of arms of the Republic of Estonia, the text “Eesti Vabariik“ and the year 2013 on the obverse and the nominal value with the euro sign (7 €) on the reverse.

Eesti Pank has been issuing collector coins dedicated to the Olympic Games since 1992. In order to mark the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, Eesti Pank is issuing a silver collector coin with a nominal value of 10 euros. The mandatory design elements include the grand national coat of arms of the Republic of Estonia, the text „Eesti Vabariik“ and the year 2014 on the obverse and the logo of the Estonian Olympic Committee plus the nominal value with the euro sign (10 €) on the reverse. The design is not allowed to display symbols that are under the protection of the International Olympic Committee and the Organising Committee for the Olympic Games in Sochi.

The deadline for submitting the designs arrives on 12 April 2013 at noon. Designs should be delivered or sent to Eesti Pank (address: Mündižürii, Eesti Pank, Estonia pst 13, 15095 Tallinn).

Participants in the design competition are allowed to submit more than one design per coin. Competition results will be announced by the panel convened by Eesti Pank on 8 May 2013 at the latest. After the coins are issued, the winners will be paid the prize money of €2,000.

De 10 euro wordt dus in 2014 uitgegeven, aldus Eestikurt op Starshop Forum die telefonisch contact heeft gehad met Eesti Pank.

Verder valt er niet veel te verwachten van Estland. Mogelijke thema's voor een verzamelaarsmunt of 2 euro herdenkingsmunt:
- 10 jaar lid van de NAVO.
- 10 jaar lid van de Europese Unie

Voor de verzamelaars van euromunten waarschijnlijk (of zeker) het meest saaie land wat betreft uitgiftes.

Voor 2014 staat er verder niets (!) gepland, behalve de 10 euro met als thema "Olympische Winterspelen van 2014 in Sochi".

Er zullen verder géén verzamelaarsmunten verschijnen, geen BU- en of Proofset en ook geen 2 euro herdenkingsmunt.

Wat betreft de circulatiemunten zullen niet alle munten worden geslagen. Het is nog niet bekend welke munten geslagen worden. Dit zal bepaalt worden naar de vraag. Is dus ook goed mogelijk dat er géén munten voor de circulatie verschijnen.

Met Letland als tweede Baltische staat die euromunten uit mag geven, krijgen we er gelukkig een land bij dat wel meerdere munten per jaar uit gaat brengen.

Estland is tot nu toe voor ons verzamelaars geen echte toegevoegde waarde

Dat klopt, Estland heeft amper 1 speciale 2 euromunt uitgebracht en zit precies geen verbetering in.

Wat betreft geplande numismatische uitgiftes is Estland al weer klaar voor 2014. Gisteren is de 10 euro "Olympische WInterspelen 2014" uitgegeven.

The silver collector coin is dedicated to the Estonian delegation and the athletes who will represent the Republic of Estonia at the XXII Olympic Winter Games in Sochi. The coin has a motif of exciting and delicate patterns that form on frosted glass. The patterns appear on both the obverse and reverse sides. The obverse side of the coin shows the coat of arms of the Republic of Estonia and the year 2014, and the reverse shows the logo of the Estonian Olympic Committee and the nominal value of the coin of 10 euros. The proof quality silver (Ag 925) collector coin weighs 28.28 grammes and is 38.61 mm in diameter, and 7,500 of the coins will be minted. The coin was designed by Taavet Kohal. The coins are minted in the Royal Dutch Mint, the Koninklijke Nederlandse Munt.

Eesti Pank has announced a competition to design a collector coin dedicated to the work of composer Miina Härma, which will be open to individual designers or to groups.

At the suggestion of the advisory committee invited by Eesti Pank to consider ideas for commemorative coins and collector coins, Eesti Pank will this summer issue a silver collector coin dedicated to the Estonian composer, choir leader and organist Miina Härma. This year saw the 150th anniversary of Miina Härma’s birth on 9 February.

“This collector coin lets the Estonian people remember their great composer, choir leader and music teacher. Miina Härma was also a part of the national movement and made an important contribution to our 145-year long tradition of song festivals and to the creation of our national flag 130 years ago”, explained Toomas Kiho, a member of the advisory committee.

The nominal value of the silver coin is 10 euros. The elements that must be included in the design are the national great coat of arms, the words “Eesti Vabariik” and the year 2014 on the obverse side, and the nominal value with the euro symbol (10€) on the reverse.

Designs for entry in the competition should be submitted by 14 March 2014 at noon to Eesti Pank at: Mündižürii, Eesti Pank, Estonia pst 13, 15095 Tallinn. The detailed technical, participation and assessment conditions and criteria will be published on the Eesti Pank website.

Participants in the design competition can submit more than one design per coin and the winners will be announced by the jury invited by Eesti Pank on 9 April 2014 at the latest. Once the coin is released, the winning designer will receive a prize of 2000 euros.

The advisory committee invited by Eesti Pank to consider ideas for commemorative coins and collector coins came together in December last year to assess proposals for coins and to give an expert opinion on the key events, anniversaries and people that Estonia should commemorate in the coming years and for which Eesti Pank could consider issuing commemorative or collector coins.

Eesti Pank is happy to receive suggestion for coins by post or email or through its website. The bank passes all the suggestions it receives to the advisory committee for analysis and expert opinion. The proposals of the advisory committee are used by the management of Eesti Pank when they decide on which commemorative and collector coins to issue.

The committee is chaired by Mart Laar, and its members are Aino Lepik von Wirén, Piret Õunapuu, Ivar Leimus, Raul Rebane, Toomas Kiho and Lauri Vahtre.

On Monday the panel convened by Eesti Pank chose the design by Jaano Ester entitled “Hoarfrost” as the winner of the competition to design a silver collector coin dedicated to the composer Miina Härma.

The Supervisory Board of Eesti Pank confirmed Jaano Ester’s design as winner of the competition at its meeting on Tuesday. The silver collector coin dedicated to the work of Miina Härma will have a nominal value of 10 euros, and Eesti Pank plans to release it this summer.

There were 25 designs entered in the competition, and second place went to the design “Blossom” by Liis Dvorjanski, third and fourth to “Cannot be Silent” and “Party Starts II” by Tiiu Pirsko and Mati Veermets, and fifth to “Alla Breve” by Jaan Meristo.

Once the coin is released, the winning designer will receive a prize of 2000 euros while the second-placed design will win 700 euros, the third-placed 500, the fourth 200 and the fifth 100. Where designers have worked together on a design, they will have to share the prize money.

Winning designer Jaano Ester also designed the gold collector coin with a nominal value of 50 kroons that was released in 2008 for the 90th anniversary of the Republic of Estonia.

Miina Härma was a part of the national movement and made an important contribution to the 145-year long tradition of Estonian song festivals and to the creation of the national flag 130 years ago.

Eesti Pank will issue the silver ten-euro collector coin dedicated to the work of Miina Härma on 16 June. The coins will go on sale in the Eesti Pank museum and in the online shop from 12.00 on 16 June at a price of 35 euros.

The date 9 February 2014 marks the 150th anniversary of the birth of Miina Härma, the Estonian composer, choir leader and organist. Miina Härma wrote over 200 songs, most of them for choirs, making her a major contributor to the repertoire of Estonian song festivals. In this way the collector coin dedicated to the work of Miina Härma fits well with this year’s 26th Estonian Song Celebration and 19th Dance Celebration “Touched by Time. The Time to Touch”.

The front of the coin bears the coat of arms of the Republic of Estonia and the year 2014, and the reverse shows pure tonal vibrations resonating from a tuning fork as a symbol of the music teacher, conductor and composer, the words “Miina Härma 150”, and the nominal value of the coin of ten euros. The coin was designed by Jaano Ester.

The proof quality silver (Ag 925) collector coin weighs 28.28 grammes and is 38.61 mm in diameter, and 7500 of the coins will be minted. The coins are being minted in the Royal Dutch Mint, the Koninklijke Nederlandse Munt.

Volgens mij komen er in 2014 geen munten voor circulatie.

Wat zou de reden zijn dat Estland tot nog toe zo weinig munten heeft geslagen ?
Betalen ze daar dan heel veel met Creditcards etc ?

Ik denk dat het te maken heeft met aantal al in omloop zijnde munten.

(de schuine strepen betekend: niet geslagen, ook niet voor BU/FDC-sets)

Waarschijnlijk kunnen ze nog wel even vooruit met dit aantal munten.
(het land is nu ook hier heel erg groot)
